We all want to write a book, but not only that, we want to write a BESTSELLING book, right?
Sadly, anyone who writes a book could achieve that goal, but very few will actually put in the work that it takes to do it! The first part of achieving that goal is actually taking the time to write that book.
I know that I had wanted to write a book ever since I was growing up reading C.S, Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, and many other such authors’ works of a similar genre. There are simply too many to list.
This was when I was young, and I attempted many times to do just that, but eventually, my progress and enthusiasm seemed to wane!
Oh sure, by the time I was about 18 years old, I had copious spiral notebooks filled, along with lots of scribbled notes and drawings (some of them pretty good, in my opinion), outlining my story, many names of characters, places, and things, and even a tentative plot and storyline.
Eventually, the thing called life got in the way, and my ambitions were quashed temporarily. It was a good thing that I somehow managed to keep most of the detritous that made up my dream of becoming a writer.
Before I made it to my 19th year, I had enlisted in the U.S. Army. About two years after I joined, my mother and step-father trekked up to Kansas where I lived (and still do) with a trailer full of treasures of mine. I had gotten married to my first wife at that time. Surprisingly, as I unpacked the boxes, there were most of my notes, writing, and my original draft manuscript!
Over the years in the Army, I got assigned to various guard duty posts for 24-hours, and to pass the time, I began rewriting my earlier work! Mind you, this was in the mid 1980s.
Eventually, I shifted away from it once again. Then in 1991, when I was married to my second wife (she, sadly, passed away in 2001), I began rewriting and refining the manuscript, thus enhancing what had been the original manuscript. I was about 24 years old at that time.
Soon, I was preparing to ship off that manuscript to a publisher, absolutely sure, in my mind, that it would get published. This only goes to show how immature in my thinking back then that I truly was. Thankfully, I never followed through with that. A couple of decades would pass before fate would lend a hand to get me started writing again.
In December of 2015, I had a one month hospital stay where I had four surgeries to try and save and then ultimately remove over half of my right foot due to an infection. Needless to say, when I finally got out of the hospital, there was a period of time where I could not work! Being self-employed, that takes a huge toll.
So, you can guess what I did! I brainstormed and decided to write a book that portrayed the ancestry of the characters in my original book! It was a prequel, and while it started out as a single book, it soon grew to a series of fifteen books!
When I finally ended it, I knew that there would need to be a sequel series to bridge this gap! Admittedly, I have been slow in producing this one, although I do have a few manuscripts in draft.
I have immediate plans to release the original manuscript of the book which ultimately spawned the Bermuda’s Secret Series! Of course, this will still entail several months of work!
I will periodically write an update post on this.
Stay tuned!
